Helping Health was set up in 2009 to provide pharmaceutical companies, who are looking to launch a new drug or revitalise a brand, with the intelligence and insight they need to align their sales and marketing effort to local need. The Helping Health team has distilled over 40 years of experience to ensure that the move to a patient-led NHS can be turned into opportunities for healthcare brands.
The company was set up in 2009 by Duncan and Cathy Alexander. Duncan says Helping Health collects data at local organisation level, either directly from PCTs, or other commissioning organisations. He wanted to find a way of displaying the information to show how one organisation was performing compared to another in a given disease area.
Duncan wasn’t looking for a full GIS system and after searching for software that would allow him to present data in a visual yet functional format he discovered InstantAtlas. “I downloaded the programme and was up and running producing reports within a couple of days,” he says.
Diabetes is a good example of an area of interest for pharmaceutical companies. Helping Health collects formulary data at PCT level and then presents the data in such a way that outcomes can be tailored for each client.
Meeting the need
According to Duncan clients have found the mapping function very useful because it allows them to see the impact of their sales and marketing strategies. “One of the things they particularly like is the ability to produce shape files around clinical commissioning groups,” says Duncan.
Duncan is keen to develop the offer around clinical commissioning groups and their linked practices. “I’ve been talking to InstantAtlas about the best way to do this but it will definitely be of interest to our clients,” he says. “The support we have had all the way down the line has been great.”
